An Onslow County toddler with an unusual haircut is in the running to win national recognition for his unique style.

Benjamin Kirwin said his son Brantley has progressed to the second round of the USA Kids Mullet Championship.

“We’re trying to get Onslow County on the mullet map and get him in the top 15 out of the 500 nominations,” Kerwin said.

Round two of the contest ends Wednesday at midnight, and Kirwin said Brantley will have to make the top 25 to get to the final round, which will begin in October.
