SAN ANTONIO - How can it be a rivalry if you've only played twice?
Well just tell that to the fans of both UTSA and Texas State, as the two schools have been rivals in almost every other sport besides football. Both schools have been rival for years, and now after a five-year wait, they can display that school spirit on the gridiron.
In 2012, UTSA won the first game 38-31 at the Alamodome when both teams were members of the Western Athletic Conference , and now they'll go on the road to San Marcos for the rematch.
Obviously, there's a ways to go for the two teams, especially since both head coaches are only in their second year.
Texas State (1-2) is coming off a 20-13 loss in its Sun Belt Conference opener, while the Roadrunners (2-0) defeated the Southern Jaguars 51-17 last week.
The I-35 rivals will play in San Antonio in 2018 and again from 2020-25 with four contests taking place at each team's home stadium.
