O'Connor defeated Brennan 38-7 to win the 28-6A district title on Thursday night - its first district crown since 2007.

SAN ANTONIO - A district champion has been crowned.

Quarterback Roel Sanchez threw for 211 yards, and three touchdowns, while rushing for 94 yards and two more scores in leading O'Connor to a 38-7 win over Brennan at Dub Farris Stadium on Thursday night.

With the victory, the Panthers (9-1 overall, 5-0 in district) wins the 28-6A district crown for the first time since 2007.

"This (district title) has been on this team's radar since January," said O'Connor head coach David Malesky. "They came out and played a heck of a ball game and our coaching staff did a great job getting these kids ready."

Sanchez set the tone for the game early in the first quarter when he broke through several tackles and eluded several defenders for a 38-yard touchdown. The junior QB scored three minutes later on a 2-yard run to give O'Connor an early 14-0 lead with 5:55 left in the first.

But the Panthers' scoring tirade wasn't done.

Sanchez connected with Jonathan Tapia and Jalen Hughes for touchdown passes of 47 and 42 yards , respectively to give the Panthers a 28-0 lead after the first stanza.

After a Michael Lyssy 41-yard field goal, Sanchez would later connect with Makeath Edmund for a 26-yard touchdown pass for a 38-0 lead in the third.

O'Connor's defense was just as impressive as its offense, as the Panthers held Brennan to 149 total yards and just eight first downs in the game, while forcing four turnovers. The Panthers tallied 480 total yards and 23 first downs.

Javon Grimes scored on a 6-yard run late in the fourth for the margin of victory.

The game delayed, much like Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday, by lightning for nearly an hour before the start of the second quarter.

The Panthers will play Judson in the first round of the playoffs next week.
