Young athletes in South and Central Texas can continue to improve their basketball skills while homebound by registering for free for the Virtual Spurs Basketball Clinic Series. Spurs Sports Academy will kick off the summer with two week-long virtual clinics, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors, Gatorade and Raising Cane’s, beginning Monday, June 1.
A twist on the flagship program of Spurs Sports Academy, the new Virtual Spurs Basketball Clinics provide instruction for male and female players ages 6-14. Participating athletes will work toward becoming better players by learning basketball fundamentals and practicing drills while focusing on positive values and fun, through live and recorded sessions. The virtual clinics will feature guest appearances, including Spurs Assistant Coach Will Hardy and San Antonio Spurs TV Analysts Matt Bonner and Sean Elliott, as well as sessions with Train the Mind, and live Q&As with Spurs Camp coaches.
“While we anxiously await to safely return on the court, and see our new and returning campers, we are excited to roll out a new virtual way to connect and engage with our young athletes,” said Joe Clark, Vice President of Youth Sports and Fan Experience at Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “We hope this new platform will enable them to remain active while homebound.”
While free, participants are encouraged to donate any amount to the Spurs Give Together Fund to help families directly impacted by COVID-19, inspire local commerce and aid first responders.
