Before Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics, the NBA announced the finalists for the NBA Awards which will be announced on June 26, and two San Antonio Spurs were mentioned.
Gregg Popovich was 1-of-3 finalist named for 2017 NBA Coach of the Year along with Houston Rockets’ Mike D’Antoni and Miami Heat's Erik Spoelstra.
Popovich helped lead San Antonio to the second best record in the NBA (61-21) and helped lead the franchise to their 20th consecutive postseason appearance.
Not to be outdone, Kawhi Leonard was named in two categories.
He is 1-of-3 finalists for the Most Valuable Player award along with Rockets’ James Harden and Oklahoma City Thunders’ Russell Westbrook. Leonard also has a chance of his third consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award as he was named along with Golden State Warriors Draymond Green and Utah Jazz Rudy Gobert.
Winners of the NBA Awards will be announced in June in New York City.
