Many look at San Antonio Spurs' Patty Mills as one of the best shooters in the league and a spark plug off the bench.
But he is so much more than that.
Mills is in his home country of Australia, where he has been named the ambassador of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and is helping spread the word about, the Games, reinforcing his native roots.
"No matter where I go. No matter how far I go from this place, I still know who I am. I still know my culture."
Mills is very connected to his aboriginal roots and always jumps at a chance to spread the word.
He was recently named the NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Person of the Year for his work as an advocate for Indigenous rights. He has also promoted Indigenous rights through his documentary "For My People" which touches on the topic close to his heart.
Mills re-signed with the Spurs to a new 4-year deal this offseason.
