The NBA Summer League basketball is in full swing and a lot of NBA players are in Las Vegas to watch the youngsters hoop.
Newly re-signed San Antonio Spurs forward Rudy Gay was in attendance to catch the Spurs summer team in action and one player caught his eye - guard Derrkick White.
“Derrick White obviously of the Spurs summer, I am going to keep my eye on him.”
“Hopefully he takes the next step this year, and comes up and helps us win.”
White has been really impressive during summer leagues.
In three games in Utah, he was the league’s leading scoring averaging 23 points per game. He also tallied, 6.7 rebounds and 7 assists per outing.
After Utah the team went on to Vegas where White has played in just two games for the Spurs. In those games, he averaged 11.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and three assists.
In just five games during the summer, Derrick has improved in every aspect of his game. More importantly, the way he carries himself. He is more at ease and lets the game come to him. He is not out there forcing shots or any play to happen.
Expect him to crack the starting rotation this coming season for San Antonio.
