If the San Antonio Spurs do end up trading Kawhi Leonard to the Sixers, Pau Gasol may be packaged as well.
In an article from Chris Sheridan of "Get More Sports," his sources are telling him Gasol to the Sixers is in play as a part of any Kawhi trade.
And what I am hearing is that a trade scenario that would send Gasol to the 76ers is very much in play as one of the various Kawhi Leonard deals being pondered by the San Antonio Spurs.
[A]lthough the Spurs would rather keep Gasol than include him in a deal that would rid them of Leonard, they are examining all options — one of which is sending Gasol to Philly in order to bring back the bushel full of assets that the Sixers are more than willing to mix and match.
If this is true, the Spurs would shed Pau's huge contract worth about $48 million. That's a sizable chuck off their payroll and young players or picks the Spurs could net in a trade with the 76ers.
For the Sixers, Pau would add a veteran presence on their young roster and help develop center Joel Embiid.
Last season, Gasol appeared in 77 games, including 63 starts, averaging 10.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.03 blocks in 23.5 minutes. He also shot .458 (287-627) from the field, and .358 (43-120) from three-point range.
