Former San Antonio Spurs forward Stephen Jackson had some choice words for Rudy Gay after Gay showered praise on the Spurs for how they treat players and handled the Kawhi Leonard saga which led him to be traded to Toronto for DeMr DeRozan in an interview with the Hartford Courant.
“The best part about San Antonio, they do right by you,” Gay said. “They do right by their players, do right by their staff. That doesn’t happen much in the NBA, to be honest with you. It doesn’t happen much. On one side, there was [Leonard] that was trying to get out, get to a bigger market, and they were totally being up front with him, and then they trade him for a guy [DeRozan] where, that organization wasn’t being up front with him at all.
This led to Jackson calling Gay a "brown-noser" and said all Gay was doing was covering up for the Spurs on how they handled the Kawhi saga and making his situation in San Antonio better for himself.
You trying to say that you're welcoming DeMar DeRozan, really you're not. You're trying to make it better for yourself in San Antonio. It's a bad time for saying that because they (Spurs) are fresh off of handling everything Kawhi has been through wrong.
So Rudy Gay, I think you just brown-nosing and trying to make it better for yourself because you still in this situation and trying to cover up what happened with Kawhi.
Now Gay has fired back at Jackson's remarks with some words of his own.
Gay sent out a tweet saying he is not about brown-nosing and affirmed his statements were in support of DeRozan.
DeRozan and Gay go back to their time in Toronto and have been close since. Even when DeMar was dealt to the Spurs, the first person he contacted was Gay.
Toss in this offseason the two paired up at the Drew League pro-am and it is clear to see Rudy was simply going to bat for his new Spurs teammate.
