There are defenders in the NBA and then there are elite defenders in the NBA.
When you talk about the league’s most dominant players on the defensive end of the floor in this era, San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard is usually at the top or near-top of the list.
But do other contemporaries of Kawhi agree with that notion?
In a poll conducted by Hoopshype of present and past players from the NBA, the two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year's name was on the majority of player's list.
From John Wall, Damian Lillard, J.J. Redick to Garrett Temple, each spoke on why Kawhi is one of the best.
“Kawhi Leonard is awesome. In terms of individual defense, he’s probably as good as it gets in terms of his versatility and ability to guard multiple positions. He can guard anyone – small and big," said Redick.
And Kawhi Leonard. They put Kawhi on me sometimes and with him, you can’t really play around with the basketball. You have to just try to get past him and score," said John Wall.
“I’d say Kawhi Leonard, Avery Bradley, Jrue Holiday and Trevor Ariza. They are all really good defenders," said Lillard.
And that was just a sampling of what they had to say about Leonard's defensive prowess.
Being the team’s best defender is one thing, but being mentioned among his peers as one of the best is an honor.
Or perhaps they were just praising him in the hopes he'll remember and go easy on them next season.
