Before the San Antonio left Los Angeles, a few members of the team got a private screening of the documentary "13TH" with film director Ava DuVernay on hand to capture the moment.

According to DuVernay, Head Coach Gregg Popovich requested a screening of the film while in L.A. and he was joined by rookie Derrick White, Brandon Paul, Patty Mills, Manu Ginobili, Matt Costello as well as coaches James Borrego, Chip Engelland and Becky Hammon. Even team GM RC Buford was on hand for the screening.

"13th" examines the "intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States. The title comes from the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which freed the slaves and prohibited slavery.

Check it out and the Spurs even gave Ava her own custom jersey.

This request from Pop just shows how much he wants his players to realize there is more going on in the world away from the basketball court and how much he keeps his finger on the pulse of social topics.
