Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian named Texas head football coach

The University of Texas at Austin announced Steve Sarkisian, currently offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide, will be the new head coach of the Longhorn football team on Saturday, January 2.

Sarkisian will replace Tom Herman, who was released earlier in the day.

According to the university, Sarkisian has a strong track record as both an offensive coordinator and head coach in both Division I college football and the NFL.

The university also noted that Coach Sarkisian will bring "extensive experience coaching in conference and national championship games and developing top talent, including three Heisman Trophy finalists."

The Longhorn football team made the announcement public with a single sentence via Twitter that read, "Welcome to Texas, Coach Stark."
