WASHINGTON (SBG) — Here's a chance to be like Mike! One lucky person will snag the shoes Michael Jordan wore when he first started out in the NBA.
While they might look like just an old pair of sneakers, the history attached to them is lengthy.
Before the basketball legend was — well, a basketball legend — he was a 6'6" rookie in 1984.
And before Air Jordans were a thing, Michael Jordan wore Nike Air Ship sneakers. You're going to get a kick out of the cost for these kicks though — more than $500,000. That's how much they're expected to fetch at auction.
The shoes are one of 11 items in the Original Air" auction organized by Christie's and sneaker consignment store Stadium Goods.
Jordan wore them in his rookie year during pre-season and some early games with the Chicago Bulls. Browsing opens on July 23 and bidding takes place between July 30 and August 13, CNN reports. The left shoe is a US size 13.5 and the right a US size 13, as is the case with most of Jordan's game-worn sneakers.
A portion of what the auction brings in will go the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund, a legal organization fighting for racial justice in the United States.
