BOTHELL, Wash. (KOMO) - Losing access to critical social media tools to check up on your friends' statuses might seem like an emergency, but police in Bothell, Washington, are asking you to hold the phone, both figuratively and literally.

The agency says some panicked individuals cut off from their daily fix are calling 911 to report Facebook is down.

"We will move mountains to help those in our community," Bothell Police tweeted Wednesday morning. "However we can't fix Facebook so please don't call 911 to 'let us know its (sic) down.'"

There were widespread reports of issues with Facebook and Instagram Wednesday morning. There is no word what was causing the outages.
