Animal rescuers in Massachusetts said Tuesday that they are caring for a tarantula that needs a home.
MSPCA-Angell said Gwen is a rose hair tarantula. Gwen was surrendered by a family that was moving.
Rescuers said they believe Gwen is female, but they don't know for sure. They think the spider is about 4 years old and could live another 15 years or more. It's about the size of a teacup.
The MSCPA said tarantula care isn't difficult, but like any pet they require time and attention.
“We’re looking for a dedicated owner that can keep up with Gwen’s specialized care, and someone experienced with Tarantulas more generally,” said Mike Keiley, director of adoption centers and programs at the MSPCA-Angell.
The organization said it doesn't see many tarantulas. It's had about 10 in 20 years.
"It's always interesting for our staff and volunteers when a Tarantula comes into our care as they are so unusual for us to see at the adoption center," Keiley said.
Anyone interested in adopting Gwen can contact MSCPA-Angell.
