SAN ANTONIO - Crews with the San Antonio Fire Department spent several hours early Friday morning battling a fire at a metal recycling center on the Southwest side.

The fire started a little after 1:30am at Monterrey Iron & Metal at 2300 Frio City Road.

The first arriving fire crews reported heavy smoke and flames coming out of the center, as foam used in car upholstery was burning.

The business is one of the largest scrap metal recycling centers in south Texas.

As of 4:30am the fire was under control, but there is no word on what caused it.
