SAN ANTONIO - Monday is the day each week that we look through all of the great pet photos sent to us in Chime In and choose just one to give the honorary title of Pet of the Week.

This week we chose Duncan Iceman, a 7-month-old Yorkshire Terrier sent in by his human, Courtnie Mercer.

Courtnie tells us she got Duncan about three months ago from Petland to be her COVID buddy.

The name Duncan Iceman was chosen because Courtnie has been a Spurs fan her entire life, even dancing with the Silver Dancers during the 2009-2010 season. "Tim Duncan is one of my favorite players and George Gervin is an absolute legend. I knew right when I saw my puppy he needed to be named after those iconic men," said Courtnie.

Duncan's favorite food is anything with chicken in it. His favorite toy is Lamb Chop. "I grew up watching Lamb Chop and the minute I saw the toy I knew I had to get it for him. He sleeps with it, plays fetch, and absolutely loves it," said Courtnie.

Duncan is still learning tricks, but so far he has mastered sitting, staying, laying down, rolling over, leaping and searching for birds. Surprisingly enough, he has flawless footwork and can both block or finish the rim with either hand. Just kidding, that's the OTHER Duncan.

"I love how smart Duncan is. I got him when he was just four months old, so training him has been a challenge, but he is getting it and I am so impressed with him. He is so sweet and attentive," said Courtnie. "But he does love to bark at anything he sees. We are working on that."

Duncan has his own comfortable bed to sleep in, but like most beloved pets, he sleeps with mom in her bed.

"Duncan had never been around water and we went over to a friend’s house to swim this summer. Duncan was running and running around the pool and each time would get closer and closer. We all thought he was going to go in the water. He did this for hours. Then all of the sudden he came up to the edge to touch noses with me and slipped and fell in. He went completely underwater and came up looking around like he didn’t know what happened. It was hilarious. Needless to say, he still likes water," said Courtnie.

Duncan Iceman has been the perfect buddy during the COVID quarantine. Everyone needs a friend they can count on.
