Each Monday we choose our Pet of the Week, looking through hundreds of adorable pet photos we receive in Chime In and pick one. This week, it's a BONUS EDITION because we couldn't decide between these two cuties sent in by Sherri Trowbridge.
Jack is a 10-year-old German Shepherd, adopted from the Military Working Dog (MWD) program at Lackland Air Force Base in 2014 and Belle is a 7-year-old Bengal cat adopted from Katznjamr Bengals in Georgetown.
Sherri and her husband are both retired from the Air Force now, but worked in Security Forces during their tenure. Sherri said, "I always had planned to try to adopt a retired MWD once I retired so I could be home full time with the dog. Jack was medically discharged from training due to a breathing problem called laryngeal dysfunction. Thankfully, it has not affected him since we've had him. We just have to be mindful not to run him too much and watch him more in the excess heat."
The military gave Jack his name, along with an ear tattoo, V295. Sherri chose Belle's name because of her love of the movie, "Beauty and the Beast"... plus it means beautiful.
Jack is a laid back, gentle puppy at heart who loves kids, cats and other animals, which is a good thing for Belle! He loves to chase after tennis balls, his favorite OUTDOOR toy, and is very well-behaved. On the other hand, Belle is very high energy and needs a lot of playtime. In other words, a typical Bengal who meows very loud when it's time to play with her favorite toys... mice and feathers.
Jack sleeps on HIS bed in Sherri's bedroom, while Belle sleeps on Sherri's bed or in her favorite chair.
Sherri said, "Jack has had both his rear ACLs repaired in the last two years due to arthritis. He is sometimes slow getting up but otherwise acts much younger than ten. He loves going to the lake, swimming after tennis balls and would stay in there all day if we let him. His favorite snack is cheese and he hates thunderstorms, like most dogs. Belle loves it when I change the bed sheets, always getting under them, hiding and playing. She also will put this one specific brown mouse in her food dish when it gets low on food!" Hint, hint.
Succinctly put, her pets are amazing and an integral part of her life.
